The National Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (NDPWI), has together with the International Labour Organisation (ILO), Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure (LPDWRI) and Construction Industry Development Board(CIDB) arranged a training named, Improve Your Business (IYB training). The training consists of six modules (marketing, costing, buying and stock control, record keeping, planning for your business and people and productivity).
The training commenced on the 23 October 2023 and ended on the 27th of October 2023. The training was targeted for Contractors mainly in the construction industry. These are contractors who have already established businesses but need to improve them. A total of 29 Contractors attended the training, which was held in Mopani District Municipality, in Tzaneen.
Amongst other things, Contractors were trained on marketing their businesses, systems of keeping records, Costing and Pricing, and different types of costs, cashflow management, people and productivity which included Leadership and Management skills as well as linking people with productivity. The contractors were also workshopped on costing tender documents and planning for their businesses.
The Construction Industry Development Board, also had a presentation and who encouraged contractors about:
- Diversification in business.
- The importance of investing a portion of your company profits.
- Ensuring that their companies maintain an active CIDB status all the time.
- Various documents needed for upgrading your CIDB status.
The ILO, also capacitated the contractors on the presentation Principles of Cost Estimating Labour Intensive Methods/Based Roads Works

SARS was also invited and given a slot to present on the importance of filing for tax.
The training was concluded by a certification ceremony, where each participant was awarded a certificate of attendance.
