Meeting of Nigerian National Referral Mechanism (NRM) Task Force

ILO Country Office, Abuja in collaboration with National Agency for the Prohibition of Traffic in Persons and other related matters (NAPTIP) organized a 1 – day meeting for NRM Task Force members. Participants drawn from government institutions, CSOs, international organizations and ECOWAS met to have a brain storming session on the formation of a referral mechanism for the protection and provision of assistance to victims of trafficking.

Participants drawn from government institutions, CSOs, international organizations and ECOWAS met to have a brain storming session on the formation of a referral mechanism for the protection and provision of assistance to victims of trafficking.

NAPTIP Executive Secretary in her opening remarks stated that ‘the meeting marks another milestone in our efforts to eliminate the scourge of human trafficking and ensure effective rehabilitation and reintegration of victims of trafficking and child labour’. There were presentations by different experts on how Nigeria can set up a functional NRM drawing reference from other countries such as Moldova, who have similar experience. Highlights of the meeting was the development of a timetable for the setting up of the NRM which was adopted by the meeting and it was also recommended that the task force becomes the expert team that will monitor the implementation of the NRM.
