The Impact of Trade on Employment in Ghana: A Review

The objective of the review study is to explore and evaluate available empirical studies on the employment and wage effects of Ghana’s sectoral, trade and foreign direct investment policies. The review study also aims at drawing lessons and best practices from the empirical evidence and raising issues to be considered for public policy and future research.

Findings and recommendations from the review exercise are expected to inform and retool public policy in a manner that will influence and empower industries that are internationally competitive with an overarching objective of creating greater employment opportunities and upgrading of the quality of labour employed in the country. The exercise offers guidance on ways to address employment issues arising out of trade and sectoral policies, programmes and activities in key sectors of the economy.
