Trade Unions and Child Labour: A tool for action

The eradication of child labour is a necessary step on the path to decent work for all and for sustainable development. It requires political will at the national and global levels, implementation of all ILO conventions (particularly Conventions 138 and 182), investment in education and universal social protection, as well as decent work for adults. Trade unions have a vital role to play in bringing about these changes.

Labour Education 1997/3 No. 108: The ILO Bureau for Workers’ Activities, in producing this edition devoted to the issue of child labour on the eve of the Oslo Conference, pronounces its pledge to join forces with all partners openly or silently engaged in bringing a prompt end to child exploitation in its worst forms and harnessing all assets to arrest the process and rehabilitate the children who have fallen victims.
