Lome, 27 January 2012 (ACTRAV INFO)-The Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV) took part in a workshop held in Lome (Togo) on 23 and 27 January 2012 on Training toolkit Inclusive Finance for Workers in Africa .
This training workshop brought together 15 participants composed of trade unionists and experts on social finance. The countries invited included Benin, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Mozambique, Tanzania, Togo, and Zimbabwe.
”The aim of the workshop was to validate a training toolkit for trade unions in Africa interested in improving access to financial services to their members. Access can be facilitated either directly by the trade union or in cooperation with financial institutions.” explained Mr. Mohamed Mwamadzingo, senior economist at the Bureau for Workers' Activities (ACTRAV).
“The long term objective of the resource toolkit will be to enhance financial inclusion of workers in Africa. It is expected that in the longer term, financial inclusion can lead to increased income, better risk management and potentially the formalization of informal workers. It is also intended that trade unions in Africa will be empowered to provide additional services to members and potential members, increasing their benefits towards their constituency”, added Mr. Mwamadzingo.
