The handbook provides an overview of child labour as defined by ILO Conventions, in particular the Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No. 182), and describes how employers and workers are working jointly to combat hazardous child labour in key sectors, such as agriculture, construction, mining and manufacturing.

The handbook was produced kick-start a global campaign launched on the World Day against Child Labour, which is marked on 12 June each year.

The ILO estimates that across the globe there are a total of 115 million children – boys and girls – under the age of 18 currently involved in hazardous work.
