Nepal: Campaign for the Ratification and Application of ILO Conventions Nos. 87 and 98 in the Asia-Pacific Region

KATHMANDU, 31 July 2011 (ACTRAV INFO)-The Bureau for Workers’ Activities (ILO-ACTRAV), in cooperation with the International Trade Union Confederation-Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) and the trade union organizations of Nepal, is running a campaign for the ratification and application of ILO Conventions Nos.87 and 98 in a number of countries in the Asia-Pacific region.

The programme includes a national conference to be held in Kathmandu on 15 and 16 August, aimed at involving the Nepalese authorities and trade union organizations in securing the ratification and application of these two ILO Conventions.

Then from 17 to 19 August, a regional conference will be held in the Nepalese capital. Eight countries will be attending, as part of this campaign for the ratification and application of ILO Conventions Nos.87 and 98. They are Bangladesh, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand and Vietnam.

The last regional conference for the ratification and application of these two ILO Conventions was held in April 2009 Malaysia and was an ACTRAV’s initiative.
