    Representatives of the harris, peasants and the landless farmers from the Dadu and Mirpurkhas districts of Sindh learned their right to form trade unions and collectively bargain with their employers/ landlords during an awareness raising seminar on Sindh Industrial Relations Act (SIRA), which was enacted by the Sindh government in March, 2013.

  1. First Agriculture and Fishing Workers’ Trade Union in Pakistan registered in Karachi

    The first ever trade union for Agriculture and Fishing Workers’ in Pakistan has been registered in Karachi. The Sindh Agriculture and Fishing Workers Union (SAFWU) was registered with the office of the Registrar Trade Unions, Karachi under the provisions of Sindh Industrial Relations Act, 2013.

Of an estimated 355,000 fatal work accidents per year worldwide, more than half are in agriculture.A disproportionate share of work-related injuries and diseases is also borne by agricultural workers. And child labourers, all too commonly employed in this sector,face particular dangers.
