International Labour Conference 2015: What were the results for the workers?

The 104th session of the International Labour Conference was characterized by the Committee on the Application of Standards resuming its work, examining 24 individual cases of violations of international labour standards. In this interview, President of the Workers’ Group, Luc Cortebeeck, shares the workers’ perspective on the work of that Committee. Mr Cortebeeck also talks about the other issues discussed at this session, such as the transition from the informal to the formal economy, social protection, the discussions about small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and the creation of decent and productive jobs, as well as the Director-General’s report on the Future of Work.

Guy Ryder: The importance of Labour Standards and Migration for the ILO

During his meeting with the Worker delegates at the 103rd International Labour Conference, which takes place from 28 of May to 12 June, the ILO Director-General, Guy Ryder stressed the importance of labour standards in the global economy. In his statement Mr. Ryder also explained the challenge for the ILO and its constituents, on the issue of Migration.

The 320th session of the ILO Governing Body drew to a close on 27 March 2014 in Geneva. In this interview, Workers’ Group Chair Luc Cortebeeck looks at several of the issues discussed during this session. Major topics included the application of international labour standards, ILO engagement with the private sector, seafarers’ rights, and migrant workers – in the context of the ILO’s chairing the UN system’s Global Migration Group (GMG).
