    Migration is one of the topics of discussion at the 103rd International Labour Conference which is being held from 28 May to 12 June 2014 in Geneva. The following is an interview with Mr Omar Faruk Osman Nur, General Secretary of Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) who expresses his views on labour migration in Somalia. He also underlines his expectations from the ILO on Migration issue.

  1. Omar Faruk Osman: “The ratification of ILO core Conventions means a lot for the Workers of Somalia”

    According to Omar Faruk Osman, the General Secretary of the Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU), by ratifying ILO Core Conventions on Freedom of Association (No.87)and Collective Bargaining (No.98), Somali workers were given the legal right to organize and bargain collectively in accordance with the ILO core labour standards. In this interview, Mr Osman explained the role of trade unions in the implementation of these Conventions and the importance of social dialogue to improve Workers’ situation in Somalia.
