    In this series of lectures, Beatriz Vacotto introduces you to the functioning of the supervisory mechanisms of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and how trade unions can use them to push for the implementation of International Labour Standards in their countries. Beatriz Vacotto is a Senior Specialist for International Labour Standards at the Bureau for Workers’ Activities of the ILO.     The International Labour Standards is one of the topics of discussion at the 322nd session of the ILO Governing Body, which was held in Geneva from 30 October to 13 November 2014. In this interview, Mary Liew Kiah Eng, General Secretary of the Singapore Maritime Officers’ Union, explains the challenges related to the ratification and implementation of the ILO core Conventions in her region. Ms. Eng also highlights the Singapore experience on tripartism in terms of promoting freedom of association and collective bargaining.
