ILO celebrates International Women's Day

february 2011 (ACTRAV INFO)-This year, the world is celebrating the centenary of International Women’s Day. To mark the occasion, the ILO organized a panel discussion on 7 March. The topic was “Making the crisis recovery work for women!”

Several personalities took part in the event, including ILO Director-General Juan Somavia and Carmen Bravo Sueskun of the Trade Union Confederation of Workers’ Commissions (CC.OO, Spain). Issues concerning women’s access to decent work and the impact of the economic crisis on women were discussed.

According to the ILO’s 2011 Global Employment Trends report, the unemployment rate is running at 6.5% for women, as against 6% for men.
