    ILO, ITC-ILO and PIPSO sign Letter of Intent to collaborate on capacity building of Pacific EBMO

    The International Labour Organization (ILO), the International Training Centre Programme for Employers Activities (ITC-ILO/ACTEMP), and the Pacific Island Private Sector Organization (PIPSO) have concluded a cooperation agreement to further promote a more structured, strategic and sustainable approach to capacity building of Employer and Business Membership Organizations (EBMO) in the Pacific Islands.

    A quick reference guide to common COVID-19 policy responses

    This reference guide provides a menu of common policy measures implemented by governments from different parts of the world in response to the COVID-19 pandemic with a focus on policy measures affecting business directly or indirectly. It assists employers’ and business membership organizations (EBMOs) in their advocacy and policy work by providing examples of policy measures drawn from different regions, countries, sectors and development contexts with relevance to the Asia-Pacific region. This guide also includes a number of policy proposals advocated by EBMOs which have not yet been adopted. For guidance and support on putting forward recommendations on COVID-19 to governments, unions and other stakeholders, EBMOs may review the COVID-19 EBMO public statement template here.

    A Private Sector Perspective on COVID19 – Conclusion of Joint Webinar Series between ILO and the Pacific Employers

    Responding to the demand for deeper private sector dialogue from employer and business membership organizations in the Pacific, an eight part webinar series was launched in collaboration between the Pacific Island Private Sector Organization (PIPSO) and ILO Bureau for Employer’s Activities (ACT/EMP). The series brought together ILO specialists, international experts, and private sector representatives from both Asia and the Pacific to share experience and views on the implications of COVID19 for social protection, wages and productivity, digital transformation, effective communications, agile HR, local industry development, the business of representing business, and the role of the corporate board.

    Stephen Lyon, Chairperson of PIPSO, explains how the Pacific private sector is responding to COVID19, some of the key learnings to come from the webinar series, and what the road ahead looks like for PIPSO.

    A Review of Skills Levy Systems in Countries of the Southern African Development Community

    This review focuses on levy-financed training funds in eight Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries: Botswana, Malawi, Mauritius, Namibia, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is based on an analysis of secondary data and studies, an online survey, and in-depth interviews with 34 key stakeholders in these eight countries, from government, from the organizations managing the training funds, from workers’ organizations and from employers’ organizations.

    Needs assessment survey: The impact of COVID-19 on enterprises

    This survey tool has been developed by the ILO Bureau for Employers’ Activities (ILO-ACT/EMP) to help employers and business membership organizations (EBMOs) evaluate the needs of enterprises as a result of on-going COVID-19 crisis. This survey tool is an update to the first one released in March 2020 (see here) and assists EBMOs gain membership insights by assessing priorities and challenges enterprises are facing due to the prolonged crisis situation.
