  1. ILO renews supplementary understanding with Myanmar

    ILO has agreed with the Government of Myanmar to extend for 12 months the ILO Supplementary Understanding which provides a mechanism for Myanmar Citizens to lodge complaints of forced labour through the ILO Liaison Officer in Yangon.

    The International Labour Office (ILO) announced today that it has concluded an Understanding with the Government of Myanmar designed to provide, as previously requested by the International Labour Conference and the ILO Governing Body, a mechanism to enable victims of forced labour to seek redress.

    The Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Juan Somavia, today welcomed a formal understanding negotiated between the ILO and the Union of Myanmar for the establishment of a facilitator to assist possible victims of forced labour in Myanmar.

  1. ILO Appoints Liaison Officer in Myanmar

    The Director-General of the International Labour Office (ILO) announced today the appointment of Ms. Hông-Trang Perret-Nguyen as the ILO Liaison Officer in Myanmar. Ms. Perret-Nguyen was born in Viet Nam and holds degrees in political science and law from the Institut d'Etudes politiques and the Sorbonne in Paris. She joined the ILO in the International Labour Standards Department where she became Chief of the Equality and Rights Branch. She subsequently served as the Director of the ILO Caribbean Office and returned to Geneva where her last appointment was as Director of the ILO's Industrial Relations Department.

    GENEVA (ILO News) - Measures to compel the Government of Myanmar (Burma) to meet its obligations to eliminate forced labour in the country will go forward, following deliberations by the International Labour Organization's (ILO) Governing Body at its 279 th session which concluded here today.
