    Myanmar: Legal Review of national laws and regulations related to child labour in light of international standards 2020, Executive report

    This paper summarizes a review of laws and practice relating to child labour that was as undertaken in and covers developments up to December 2020, as well as the existing practices in Myanmar are implementing the requirements of the international standards on child labour, such as in particular the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; the ILO Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No. 138) and the ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No. 182).

    Legal Review of national laws and regulations related to child labour in light of international standards 2020

    This review is aimed at determining the extent to which national laws, regulations, policies and other measures, as well as the existing practices in Myanmar are implementing the requirements of the international standards on child labour, such as in particular the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child; the ILO Minimum Age Convention, 1973 (No. 138) and the ILO Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999 (No. 182).

    Myanmar Safe Work for Youth - Training Kit (second edition)

    The “Safe work for youth” Kit includes materials designed for public administrators, employers and young people about the occupational hazards and risks faced by young workers in Myanmar in the garment, construction and fishing sectors. The kits contains a number of tools, including guidance and tips on OSH specifically for these sectors, aiming at preventing hazardous work.

    Assessment of options for establishing a child labour monitoring system (CLMS) in Myanmar

    This study was commissioned in 2019 by the ILO’s My_PEC project in Myanmar to support the implementation of the National Action Plan on Child Labour (the NAP) in Myanmar. The NAP was developed in 2017-2018 by multiple national organizations under the guidance of the Technical Working Group on Child Labour (TWG-CL) and led by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration and Population (MOLIP).

    COVID-19 and Child Labour in Myanmar

    Working with Kantar Public Information Myanmar, the International Labour Organization conducted remote fieldwork to understand the impact that COVID-19 has had – and will continue to have – on the incidence and dynamics of child labour in Myanmar. The study took place between July 2020 and January 2021 in six states and regions: Ayeyarwady Region, Bago Region, Kayin State, Mon State, Shan State and Yangon Region.

    Child Labour and how you can help

    1 in 11 children are trapped in child labour in Myanmar, with half of these children subjected to hazardous conditions. Child labour : deny children education, is harmful to their health and development, and can be deadly. It prevents children, communities and the country from progressing. It is also illegal. At the International Labour Organization (ILO), we believe in a brighter future for children and for Myanmar. There is a pressing need to eliminate child labour.
