US Labor Market Indicators


February: Solid job creation for the last two consecutive months and unemployment fell slightly.

  1. Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 235,000 in February. The major drivers of job growth were private educational and health services (+62,000), construction (+58,000), and manufacturing (+28,000) sectors.
  2. The unemployment rate, at 4.7%, showed a slight decline in February. Jobless rates for both adult men and women remained 4.3% but 15% among teenagers.
  3. Gender gap in labor force participation persisted: 57% for females while 68.8% for males. While 30.7% of women are reported to work less than 35 hours per week, this ratio is 18.5% among men.
