ILO to mark International Women’s Day with a panel discussion on women at work
The ILO will be holding a panel discussion on women at work on the eve (7 March) of International Women’s Day.
GENEVA – The International Labour Organization (ILO) will be marking International Women’s Day with a panel discussion entitled: “ILO Women at Work Centenary Initiative: Where we are and where we want to be", to be held at the ILO Headquarters in Geneva on Friday, 7 March at 11:00 in Room II.
Keynote speakers will be ILO Decent Work Research prizewinner Professor Jayati Ghosh of India, and eminent scholar Sir Bob Hepple of the UK-based University of Cambridge.
ILO Director-General Guy Ryder will open the discussion. He will also issue a statement on this occasion.
Representatives of employer and workers' organizations will also participate in the panel, followed by audience interaction.
The ILO Centenary Initiative on Women at Work is one of the seven being launched ahead of the ILO’s 100th anniversary in 2019 to help “equip the Organization to take up successfully the challenges of its mandate in the future”.
The ILO is planning a major assessment of women in the world of work in the years leading up to its Centenary. This year’s event launches a process of reflection on this Initiative.
The event takes place within the broad framework of the United Nationschosen topic for International Women’s Day, which is “Equality for women is progress for all”.
