Data collection on working time and work organisation

WORKING TIME AND WORK ORGANISATION

ILO Working Conditions Laws Database

The Working Conditions Laws Database provides detailed information on working time laws, including normal hours of work, maximum hours limits, weekly rest periods, and paid annual leave, for over 103 countries around the world.

LABORSTA and KILM

The ILO Department of Statistics (LABORSTA) collects and disseminates detailed statistics on the following aspects of working time: hours of work by economic activity, in manufacturing; weekly hours of work in non-agricultural activities and in manufacturing; and the distribution of the employed population by hours of work (1995-2005 only). In addition, data on hours of work are collected for 159 occupations through the ILO October Inquiry, which is conducted with reference to the month of October each year by means of questionnaires that are sent to ILO Member States.

The ILO’s Key Indicators of the Labour Market (KILM) programme collects additional statistical information on the following working time indicators: total part-time employment as a proportion of total employment; the percentage of the part-time workforce comprised of women; average annual actual hours worked per person; and time-related underemployment.
