ILO-Japan Co-operative Alliance (JCA) Public Seminar : Future of Work × Africa × Cooperatives (9/13)

The International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Japanese Consumers' Co-operative Union (JCCU) have co-organized a Study Tour Programme for African Cooperative Leaders annually since 2010.  By 2019, 43 participants from 16 African countries have participated in the program and learned various Japanese cooperative activities.

This year is the centenary year for the ILO, and this study tour marks the 10th edition: five leaders of cooperatives from Kenya, Nigeria, and Tanzania joined the study tour in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Nagano, from 5th (Thu) to 14th (Sat) September.

As a part of this programme, the ILO and JCA co-organize a public seminar where an ILO COOP Specialist delivered a keynote and the tour participants made presentations on their respective cooperatives and findings in Japan on 13th September. This seminar was held as a TICAD7 Partner Project. The seminar provided a valuable opportunity to hear the voices of cooperative leaders, who play crucial roles in development, business, and employment creation in Africa.  Over 90 people, including the Nigerian Ambassador to Japan, and Kenyan, Tanzanian and Ugandan embassy officials, attended the event.  For more details, click here.
