ILO Seminar on Labour Dimension of CSR Trends of global supply chains and the challenges facing Japanese corporations

The globalization of the world and the economy has made Japanese firms accelerate the expansion of their overseas operations. The International Labour Organization (ILO) is now implementing the future of work initiative, one of its seven centenary initiatives, to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2019.

This summer at its International Labour Conference, the “Global Supply Chains (GSCs) and Decent Work” was selected as one of the agenda and the associated roles of the ILO, Government, workers and employers was discussed. This year Japan celebrates the 60th anniversary of its membership to the UN while the UN started the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development Goals (SGDs) in January.  In the meanwhile it has been ten years since the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) was founded. 

This seminar attempted to provide an update on the trends in the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and the PRI, the relevant effort by the government as well as the related policies and practice of workers and employers.  Approximately 140 participants attended at the seminar.
