ILO to coordinate and implement technical assistance as part of the national recovery and reconstruction phase in Vanuatu - Post Cyclone Pam

The ILO Director General Mr Guy Ryder has personally written to the Government of the Republic of Vanuatu expressing on behalf of the ILO our deepest sympathy following the loss of lives and the immense devastation by Cyclone Pam

25 March 2015

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has launched a flash appeal for urgent funding to help with ongoing relief efforts in Vanuatu following the devastation wrought by Cyclone Pam.

The ILO is working with the UN system, through the Pacific Humanitarian Team in coordinating and implementing technical assistance, primarily as part of the national recovery and reconstruction phase.

The ILO has made available initial funding to locate a short-term ILO Official in Vanuatu, and experts who will work with the Livelihoods and Employment Cluster to launch initial work in support of small- scale and community contractors to be involved in the recovery and reconstruction efforts - thereby maximizing local job creation.
