ILO SKILL-UP Ethiopia organized a technical and Policy Foresight Workshop for the Agro-Processing Sector

The rapid STED Technical and Policy Foresight Workshop for the Agro-Processing Sector was conducted the 10th and 11th of December 2019 in Addis Ababa.

ILO SKILL-UP Ethiopia project organized a rapid technical and policy foresight workshop on Trade and Economic Diversification (STED) aiming to identify ways to improve the local employment impact of trade and globalization.

The Rapid STED Technical and Policy Foresight Workshop aimed to support the development of sector-level skills governance arrangements, share the cooperation activities in the sector and engage participants in the key stages of diagnostics and planning on the skills needs for the target sector over a period of two days.

The workshop discussion and consultations with project partners and other stakeholders resulted in an agreed skills strategy for the sector owned by the national partners. During the workshop, different topics such as business environment and market trends; identifying business capability gap; agro-processing sector vision; key occupations in the sector; skills sources and providers, among others, were discussed with 33 stakeholders coming from the private sector, government, TVET officials, development partners, and others.

Within the agro-processing sector, the focus is on the food and beverage sector; and the dairy sector. In terms of geographical location, the focus is on Oromia and Amhara regions.
