ILO webinar on Innovations and Strategies for Quality Apprenticeships

The webinar will take place on Friday, 10 July 2020 from 11:00 - 12:30 (CEST). It will examine the challenges faced by countries in developing, implementing and scaling up apprenticeships in the changing world of work and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The International Labour Organization (ILO) is launching a free Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on Quality Apprenticeships. The MOOC aims to support policy-makers and practitioners in the design and implementation of quality apprenticeships in the fast-changing world of work and to address the challenges posed by COVID-19.

As part of the MOOC, three webinars will be organized to provide a platform for international experts to share their knowledge and experience on various topics regarding apprenticeships. Speakers and participants will be encouraged to engage in an open discussion in which knowledge, insights and innovative ideas are shared among the international community of apprenticeship policy-makers and practitioners.


Objectives of the first webinar: Innovations and Strategies for Quality Apprenticeships

  • To examine the challenges faced by countries in developing, implementing and scaling up apprenticeships in the changing world of work and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic
  • To exchange experiences and good practices undertaken by various countries to overcome perpetual and emerging challenges
  • To share strategies for promoting quality apprenticeships and lifelong learning
  • To identify policy recommendations and innovative solutions enhance the effectiveness and resilience of apprenticeship systems

The key questions that will be discussed are as follows:

  • How the use of digital technology transforming the design and implementation of apprenticeships?
  • What strategies are needed to make apprenticeships relevant for the future of work and promote lifelong learning, and respond to COVID 19 pandemic?
  • What strategies are needed to make apprenticeships attractive to employers, especially SMEs in developing countries?
  • What are the lessons learned from reforms carried out in different countries. 
The webinar provides a platform for over 1,300 MOOC participants from around 125 countries to share their knowledge and experience.

The webinar will take place on Friday, 10 July 2020 from 11:00 - 12:30 (CEST). It will examine the challenges faced by countries in developing, implementing and scaling up apprenticeships in the changing world of work and in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. By allowing participants from diverse countries to exchange experiences and good practices, the webinar provides an opportunity for discussing policy recommendations and innovative solutions enhance the effectiveness and resilience of apprenticeship systems.
