Inter-agency Career Guidance Working Group series

Come and join our series of career guidance conversations between members of the inter-agency career guidance working group and international career guidance experts.

In order to shine a light on key issues and successful practices in career guidance systems around the globe, the inter-agency career guidance working group hosts a series of events titled “Career Conversations”.

The series brings together senior experts from different countries to discuss challenges, share effective practices, innovative approaches, and valuable insights into the world of career guidance. The series serves as a unique platform to improve practices in career guidance for better success in today’s and tomorrow’s world of work for individuals and across geographies.

    Digital Technologies in Career Guidance – A conversation with Jaana Kettunnen
    27/10/23

    This was the first in a series of conversations between members of the inter-agency career guidance working group and international career guidance experts. The conversation aimed to share insights on the impact of artificial intelligence and digital technologies on career guidance and how best to leverage the new opportunities and address challenges that arise as a result.

    The session featured Professor Jaana Kettunen, Vice-director of the Finnish Institute for Educational Research. Jaana’s research revolves around career guidance practice and public policy development, with a special interest in the design and use of information and communication technology in career guidance.

    The conversation also brought together expertise from different agencies, including ILO, OECD, Cedefop and UNESCO, who briefly showcased some of their ongoing work.

    The quest for quality in career guidance – A conversation with Sareena Hopkins
    15/12/23

    This was the second in a series of career conversations between members of the inter-agency career guidance working group and international career guidance experts. The conversation focused on quality assurance in career guidance and how to leverage it.

    The session featured Sareena Hopkins, the Executive Director of the Canadian Career Development Foundation (CCDF), who has been pivotal in leading strategic initiatives both nationally and globally. Sareena is a well know advocate for quality career development and has often highlighted its importance in achieving sustainable development goals. She has been actively involved in promoting professional training and certification for career development practitioners, emphasising their role in community building and in achieving socio-economic outcomes . Active in policy, research, development, and capacity building, Ms. Hopkins is also the founding Executive Officer of the Canadian Council for Career Development and received the prestigious International Gold Medal for Leadership in Career Development in 2014.

    The conversation also brought together expertise from different agencies, including ILO, OECD, Cedefop and UNESCO, who briefly showcased some of their ongoing work.

    From school to work, from work to life – A conversation about career education with Tristram Hooley
    23/02/24

    This is the third in a series of informal talks between members of the inter-agency career guidance working group and international career guidance experts. The conversation will focus on career education and career guidance for youth in education and training.

    Organised by the inter-agency group on career guidance (IAG), this session aims at understanding the current challenges and solutions to establish effective career education in schools and training institutions. Amidst critical discussions around uncertainty, but also new opportunities and hope, youth deserves the best opportunity to develop the skills and attitudes that will enable them to navigate a shifting labour market, and have a balanced fulfilled life.

    The session features Prof. Tristram Hooley, international researcher, and practitioner trainer in career education, as well as a well-known advocate of social justice in career development.

    The session also brings together expertise from different agencies including ILO, OECD, and ETF, who will briefly showcase some of their ongoing work.

Audience

Anyone interested in learning about diverse aspects of career guidance. The sessions may be especially interesting for career guidance practitioners, career development researchers, policymakers, careers service/ learning institution managers, teachers, and trainers.
There are no fees to join.
