The event was attended by more than 80 participants representing CIS Centres from all over the world (i.e. OSH directors and experts, information specialists, coordinators and managers, etc.), as well as observers from the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA), the World Health Organization (WHO), and other international and national organizations.
OSH information is extremely important to achieve efficient national OSH systems at the national level and OSH management systems at the enterprise level, leading to improved working conditions and the prevention of work-related accidents and occupational diseases. Furthermore, OSH information, especially practical information, is frequently requested around the world.
Demands and priorities in the area of OSH knowledge-management are changing as a result of technical progress. The rapid developments in world information resources, notably those available via the Internet, provide new opportunities for OSH management.
The information strategy and priorities of CIS should be revised and adapted to take advantage of these opportunities, and to maximize the performance of OSH information world-wide; CIS, as the flagship of such world-wide ILO-OSH information, should meet modern demands.
Participants discussing ways for collecting and sharing good OSH practicesNowadays, constituencies, OSH institutions and enterprises require new forms of OSH information, which are necessary to develop and implement OSH policies, systems and programmes, all in accordance with ILO standards.
CIS and the CIS Network will use their potential to provide this information.
The meeting took place within the framework of the XIX World Congress on Safety and Health at Work.
