Music for rights, concert in Milan for the World Day Against Child Labour

On the World Day for the Elimination of Child Labour of 12 June, the SONG-Sistema in Lombardia and the Network of Music Schools of the Metropolitan City of Milan (Rete SMIM), in collaboration with the Office for Italy and San Marino of the International Labour Organization (ILO), will organize the concert “Music for rights”. This concert will take place at the PIME theater of Milan on Saturday 12 June 2021 from 18h00 to 19h30. For many young music students of Milan, the concert will be the first opportunity to perform again on stage.

The concert is part of the initiatives that celebrate the United Nations International Year for the Elimination of Child Labour and the ILO’s Manifesto “Music Against Child Labour”. It aims to raise awareness among young people and adults on the importance of taking urgent action on the elimination of child labour across the globe. This is even more urgent in light of the economic crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic, which could trap even more children in situations of labour exploitation labour as a result of the increase of poverty in many parts of the world.

The following performances will take place during the event: the Pasquinelli Young Orchestra conducted by Carlo Taffuri, the CrescendOrchestra conducted by Michele Fedrigotti and Stefano Montaldo and Maria Olivero, author of the song TODAY, Say No to Child Labour!

During the event, the winners of the first competition among music schools “Musica nella Rete”, organized by Rete SMIM, will be given an award.
