What is the UN/CSD?

How is the Project involved?

One of the long-term aims of this Project is "To put the cooperating trade unions in a position to participate fully in the formulation and implementation of national environmental and sustainable development policies which reflect the special needs and concern of the workers and their organizations." The Project aims to increase trade union participation in consultative and/or decision making bodies such as the UN/CSD in order to influence decisions and their impacts on the worker.

Before yearly ministerial meeting of the UN Commission on Sustainable Development (UN/CSD), pre-meeting sessions are held which engage the various Social Partners in a dialogue about their positions on the theme of that year. For the past three years, the Project has cooperated with the ICFTU, who oversees the coordination of the trade union participation. ( More details on the ICFTU can be found at )
