Bill Brett - U.K.
 

Chairperson of the Governing Body of the ILO for 2002-2003. Bill Brett has been Vice-Chairperson of the Governing Body of the ILO, and Chairperson of the Workers’ group of the ILO Governing Body since 1993. He became General Secretary of the Institution of Professionals, Managers and Specialists (a trade union for professional workers such as scientists, engineers, architects) in 1989 and was re-elected for a further five-year term in 1994. He has had a long and committed career with trade unions; Negotiator with the Bank Employees’ Union (BIFU); Member of the General Council of the TUC, Member of the Major Policy Committee of the Council of Civil Service Unions; Member of the Executive Committee of the Public Services International from 1989 to 1999.He was appointed a member of the House of Lords (UK) in June 1999.
