Abstract
In the Philippines, a one-year research project has been completed. This aimed to analyse the current state of legal protection for indigenous peoples' rights in the Philippines and how it can be implemented more effectively or strengthened. An important component of this is a comparison of existing legislation with the principles contained in Convention No. 169. The process has involved extensive consultations with indigenous peoples' organizations, and relevant Government bodies and officials, as well as other legislative research. The recommendations from this study, from an INDISCO-implemented project, as well as the work undertaken by the ILO's Area Office in Manila, will be furthered in a complementary manner through concrete activities.
