Abstract
In November 2002, PRO 169 Project participated in a Consultation and Training Workshop for "Pygmy" Communities on Human Rights, development and Cultural Diversity, organized by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, in collaboration with ILO and UNESCO. Following participation in this workshop - the first of its kind in this region - the Project has initiated a number of activities in the Region.

In Cameroon the PRO 169 Project has undertaken a number of pieces of background research that will form the basis for future work in Cameroon. This includes: a study of national legislation and customary law of relevance to indigenous and tribal peoples in Cameroon; and a study on indigenous participation in the formulation and implementation of the national Poverts Reduction Strategy and indigenous perceptions of poverty. Both these studies included consultations with indigenous communities, in order to ensure that their views were taken into account.

This work will be followed up, beginning with a national seminar in mid-2005 to establish a plan of action based on the conclusion and recommendations of the research.
