On the
proposal of the ILO Turin Staff Union, the FICSA /Federation
of Internatioanl Civil Servants Staff Associations
and Unions) Council, meeting in Copenhagen adopted
by acclamation on 14 February the text of a Resolution
on Peace which had been elaborated jointly by our
two Union during our working session of 5 and 6 February
in Turin. The ILO Staff Union of course associates
itself fully with this text, and thanks you in advance
for contributing to making it known.
RESOLUTION
ON PEACE
The 56th
FICSA Council (WHO/EURO Copenhagen, 10 to 14 February
2003)

Reaffirming the commitment
of international civil servants and their Associations/Unions
to the cause of universal peace;

Stressing that the
overall principles and rules for functioning of
United Nations should prevail also in times of
tension and international crisis;

Extremely worried
at the rapid escalation of violence in the Middle
East, and at the associated risk of war in Iraq;
-
Ensures the Secretary-General
of the United Nations of its full support in his
efforts to safeguard the chances for a lasting
peace in the sub-region, through full respect
of UN principles and Security Council rules and
procedures.
