ILO Abidjan

Geneva, 18 April 2005

Following the decision made to temporarily transfer out of Cote d'Ivoire the Regional Office for Africa and the Sub-regional Office, the staff union and the administration have agreed to initiate discussions on resulting consequences for locally recruited staff.

A delegation from our local Staff Union Committee has arrived in Geneva. The titular regional representative for Africa, 3rd Vice-chair of the ILO Staff Union Committee, is also present. Negotiations started this Monday morning in ILO Headquarters.

The ILO Staff Union expresses its full solidarity with all of our Abidjan colleagues.

The Union side will spare no effort to ensure that discussions about to start result in solutions that are not only the "least worst possible" for the more than 50 colleagues concerned - who total over 350 years of loyal and committed service with the International Labour Organization.
