Solidarity with Pakistan

Geneva, 10 October 2005

A killer-earthquake has struck the north of Pakistan, including its capital Islamabad. The death-toll may reach 40,000 persons, with 60,000 injured, many of them children whose schools collapsed in the middle of their classes. The Director of the ILO office and our trade union representative contacted the Union, to inform us that while no ILO official has been directly affected, we need to demonstrate our solidarity both in helping the families of the victims and in the reconstruction.

Please send your donations urgently to the Union’s postal account: CP-17-736233-6, ILO Staff Union – Disaster Relief – mention “Solidarity with Pakistan” or donate to the collection that will be organized locally by our union representatives. The funds gathered will be sent to the ILO Union in Islamabad for distribution.

A collection will take place at Headquarters on Tuesday, 11 October 2005, from 12:00 to 14:00 in R.2 North (in front of the Cafeteria) and in R.2 South (Naville).

Thanks in anticipation for your solidarity and your generosity!
