Geneva Roars Back to Win Second United Nations
Ryder Cup

Haugschlag, Austria (10-11 September) - Geneva made a strong charge on the second day of competition to win five of the six doubles matches thus successfully defending its United Nations Ryder Cup title.

The annual event, started in Geneva in 2003, pits the Vienna-based and Geneva-based UN agencies against each other in mixed teams of twelve players over a two-day event (singles on the first day and doubles on the second day). This year's competition was hosted by Vienna and held at the Haugschlag Golf Resort in northeast Austria

Vienna took what appeared to be a commanding lead of 8-4 points after the first days' singles matches, winning 7, losing 3 and halving 2. But the Geneva team roared back on day two picking up 10 points* by winning five of the six doubles matches. The overall result thus stood at Geneva 14 points - Vienna 10 points.

On the Geneva team, Francois Musy and Terry Slater maintained their 100% records having won all their singles and doubles matches last year and again this year. Alfredo Spamer remains unbeaten winning two doubles, one singles and halving one singles match. Newcomer Jean-Bernard Ballion joined the 100% record club by winning both his singles and doubles matches this year.

All Geneva players were full of praise for Vienna Captain Marc Harris for the excellent arrangements that had been made for the weekend of competition and friendship.

Geneva will host the third Ryder Cup in September 2005.
