The ILO BRIDGE CLUB is a very dynamic and popular section
of the ILO Saturday Sports Society. It has more than 80 active members, and a duplicate bridge
tournament is organized every Monday at 5:30 p.m. in Room 22 in the Staff Lounge (R1- North).
One of these prize-winning tournaments (usually held on the
last Monday of the month) is an Official Tournament, the results of which are counted
towards an annual ranking of club members. The other prize-winning tournament is called an
Unofficial Tournament. The club also organizes special Challenge Cup matches, and participates in the Geneva Inter-Agency bridge tournament. Every May, a bridge team is usually despatched by the club to represent the ILO at the UN Inter-Agency Games. Bridge courses for beginners and middle level players are arranged on request.
The membership of the Club is open to the ILO officials (both serving and retired) and their families. Officials from other international organizations and permanent missions to the UN may also join, subject to the availability of space. All ILO officials and their family members are welcome to join the Club. If interested, please contact one of the members of the Executive Committee, or just come directly to the Club any Monday, just before the 5:30 tournament. There is no obligation to join - though the table fee for playing at Official Tournaments is higher for non-members than for members. New members pay an inscription fee of SFr 5.00, with an annual membership fee of SFr 20.00 payable thereafter. The activities of the club generally include two optional, and extremely popular, weekend outings per year, held in a mountain resort (usually in Haute Savoie), with room and meal costs at very reasonable rates.
