Kazakh employment rate increases in 2011

The measures being conducted within the framework of the Employment Programme - 2020 have had positive impact on the labour market in the country, the Kazakh prime minister's website, pm.kz, reports.

According to preliminary estimates by the Kazakh Agency for Statistics, the unemployment rate reduced from 5.8 per cent in 2010 to 5.4 per cent in December 2011. At the same time, the number of the employed people increased from 8,144,200 to 8,466,000.

It is noteworthy that the implementation of a programme for youth practice and the creation of social jobs contributed to preventing the growth of unemployment among young people. The figure for it in the third quarter of 2011 was 4.7 per cent, which corresponds to the level of the third quarter in 2010.

According to local executive bodies, the number of the unemployed citizens registered on the labour market, that is those registered at employment centres, by 1 January 2012 was! 36,600 people.

All in all, 322,500 people contacted the employment bodies of the country seeking jobs in 2011 and 235,000 of them found jobs.

According to local executive bodies, social contracts were signed, as at 1 January 2012, with over 58,000 people, who wish to participate in the programme - 35,500 of them unemployed (60.5 per cent), 20,800 (35.5 per cent) of them independently occupied and 2,900 (5 per cent) are needy people.
