Moscow
3 December 2011

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev signed Federal Law On Ratification of the Prevention of Major Industrial Accidents Convention (Convention No. 174).

The Convention was adopted at the 80th session of the General Conference of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva on June 22, 1993.

The Convention creates obligations of ILO member states who ratify it to formulate, implement and periodically review a coherent national policy concerning the protection of workers, the public and the environment against the risk of major accidents at major hazard installations.

It also sets forth the rights and responsibilities of workers and their representatives at major hazard installations and establishes responsibilities for employers operating such installations.
