On October 4, Astana hosted a seminar focusing on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work within the framework of cooperation to implement the ILO Decent Work Country Programme for 2010-2012 in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The DWCP was developed in partnership with tripartite constituents in Kazakhstan to ensure sustainable socio-economic development and improve living standards of the republic’s population.
Among those who made remarks in their opening addresses to the seminar were Kazakh Deputy Labour and Social Protection Minister Birzhan Nurymbetov, Executive Director of the Republic’s Confederation of Employers, Nadzhat Kadyrov, head of the department of social and economic protection and labour inspection, the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan, Nina Osmanova, Focal Point for HIV/AIDS and the world of work for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (ILO Moscow) Elena Kudriavtseva and ILO National Coordinator in Kazakhstan Talgat Umirzhanov.
The seminar provided a platform for discussing the role of social partnership in promoting the principles of the ILO Recommendation concerning HIV and AIDS and the World of Work (No. 200) and reviewing the national legislation.
The seminar’s main task was to develop proposals for a draft national policy on HIV/AIDS and the World of Work.
The seminar brought together state labour inspectors from Kazakhstan’s sixteen regions, the cities of Astana and Almaty, representatives of republican and regional employers’ organizations and trade unions, and experts of the republican centre for AIDS prevention and control.
