  • Russia's unemployment rate grows to almost 7% in December 2010
    24 January 2011. The employment rate of the Russian population, which is calculated as the ratio of the of the total number of employed persons to the overall population of the relevant age, amounted to 62.5 percent in December 2010, the Prime Tass economic news agency said, quoting a report of the Federal State Statistics Service.
  • HIV/AIDS rate rises in Tajikistan in 2010
    21 January 2011. Over 1,004 of HIV/AIDS new cases were recorded in Tajikistan in 2010. A source at the Republican AIDS Centre of the Tajik Health Ministry told Asia-Plus that over 280 people, the representatives of various segments of the population, underwent counselling and HIV-test in 2010, as a result of which new cases of HIV were recorded; of them 797 were male and 207 were female.
  • Tajikistan sets up Migration Service
    21 January 2011. Under a decree by the president of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Migration Service under the government of the Republic of Tajikistan was set up today.
  • ILO Global Employment Trends 2011. ILO report warns weak jobs recovery to continue through 2011, youth employment a world priority
    20 January 2011. With global unemployment, as officially measured, at record highs for the third straight year since the start of the economic crisis, the International Labour Office warned in its annual employment trends survey that weak recovery in jobs is likely to continue in 2011, especially in developed economies.

  • Tajik migrants send nearly 2.3 bn dollars home in 2010
    20 January 2011. Tajik migrant workers, who are mainly working in Russia, sent nearly 2.29bn dollars to Tajikistan last year, which is a 25-per-cent increase compared to 2009, the chairman of the National Bank of Tajikistan, Sharif Rahimzoda, has told journalists.
  • Kazakhstan ratifies ILO Asbestos Convention
    17 January 2011. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev signed a law to ratify ILO Asbestos Convention, 1986 (No.162).
  • Tajik GDP grows 6.5 per cent in 2010
    17 January 2011. Tajik GDP exceeded 24.7bn somoni (over 5.6bn dollars) last year, which is higher by 6.5 per cent than the figure for 2009, the Statistics Agency under the Tajik president has reported.
  • Mikhail Shmakov re-elected FITUR chairman
    14 January 2011. Mikhail Shmakov was re-elected to the post of chairman of the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia (FITUR). Participants in the 7th FITUR congress in Moscow voted for his candidature on January 14.
