Armenia should develop small and medium-sized businesses, draft mechanisms to free its economy from oligopoly and guarantee fair market competition, Artur Bagdasaryan, the republic’s National Security Council Secretary, said in his opening remarks to the first national conference on social partnership.
• Training for employers organizations
  29 September 2010. On September 29, a three day training on building effective employers’ organizations took place at the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs (Employers) of Azerbaijan. The training was organized by the ILO and the ILO International Training Centre in Turin.
• Kazakh leader urges small business development
  28 September 2010. Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev praised the industrial and innovative development of the republic’s Southern Kazakhstan Region, where he had paid a visit.
• Turkmenistan’s parliament ratifies ILO’s Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention
  27 September 2010. On September 27, Turkmenistan’s parliament ratified the ILO’s Worst Forms of Child Labour Convention, 1999, (No. 182).
• ILO, Kaluga region issue leaflets on HIV/AIDS prevention among women
  24 September 2010. The Kaluga regional AIDS centre under the support of the International Labour Organization issued leaflets for women.
• Kazakhstan needs to ratify ILO Maternity Protection Convention – roundtable meeting in Almaty
  21 September 2010. Kazakhstan needs to ratify ILO Maternity Protection Convention, 2000 (No. 183), this will strengthen social positions of women with children and with family responsibilities, Larissa Kharkova, vice-president of the Kazakhstan Free Trade Unions Confederation told a roundtable meeting on labour equality in the sphere of labour and social welfare in Almaty on September 21.
• Russia's unemployment rate nears 7% in August 2010
  17 September 2010. The total number of unemployed people in Russia counted by standards of the International Labor Organization (ILO) decreased by two percent in August 2010 to near 5.25 million.
• Oslo Conference Calls for Commitment to Recovery Focused on Jobs
  13 September 2010. The heads of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the International Labour Organization (ILO), along with other leaders, today called for a broad international commitment to a jobs-focused policy response to the global economic downturn.
• Tajik leader orders increase in monthly wages, pensions, scholarships
  6 September 2010. On 6 September Tajik president's website published a decree by the president of Tajikistan on measures aimed at strengthening the level of population's social security and increasing current allowances of public servants, workers of budgetary establishments, organizations as well as pensions and scholarships.
• IMF and ILO Launch Background Paper on the “Challenges of Growth, Employment and Social Cohesion” for High-Level Conference on September 13 in Oslo

The International Monetary Fund and the International Labour Organization have issued a stark assessment of the outlook for employment in the wake of the global financial crisis, saying that the world faces major challenges in creating enough quality jobs to sustain growth and development.
