Unemployment in Russia increased 10.8% on the month in January to 6.841 million people, or 9.2% of the country's labor force, as calculated under International Labour Organization (ILO) methodology, the Federal State Statistics Service said Thursday, the economic news agency PRIME-TASS reported.
The number of officially registered unemployed persons increased 2.6% on the month to 2.202 million people by the end of January.
The total number of unemployed persons rose 5.2% on the year in January, while the number of officially registered unemployed persons rose 29% on the year.
The labour force in Russia was estimated at 74.6 million people, or over 52% of the total population, as of the end of January.
