ILO Moscow Office launches new project on DWCP priorities in eight CIS countries

Moscow
2 February 2010

The ILO Subregional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia (SRO Moscow) and the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs jointly developed a four-year project on implementing the Decent Work Country Programmes (DWCP) priorities in eight countries of Central Asia and the Caucasus.

The project entitled “From the Crisis Towards Decent and Safe Jobs” seeks to ensure stability and prosperity through the development of Decent and Safe work, focusing on three main pillars - employment opportunities, occupational safety and health and social security based on a stronger social dialogue.

The project will also assist in the implementation of the Wider Europe Initiative (WEI) - a new long-term framework programme for development cooperation and strengthening stability and security in the CIS countries, initiated by Paavo Vayrynen, Minister of Foreign Trade and Development.

The project agreement was signed in Moscow on February 2 by Finnish Ambassador Matti Anttonen and SRO Moscow Director Martina Lubyova.

“The project will help the national partners in eight CIS countries to put into practice the priorities that they have themselves identified in the pursuit of Decent Work,” said Martina Lubyova upon signing the agreement.

The 4 million euro project will last from January 2010 to December 2013 and cover the five Central Asian countries - Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan; and the three South Caucasian states - Armenia, Azerbaijan and Georgia.
