Marianna Shchetkina appointed labour and social protection minister of Belarus

On December 4, Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed Marianna Shchetkina as the Republic’s Labour and Social Protection Minister.

Marianna Shchetkina was born on Kildin Island, Russia’s Murmansk region, on November 20, 1958. In 1982 she graduated from A. A. Zhdanov Leningrad State University (now known as St. Petersburg State University), department of physics, in 2007 – from the Academy of Management under the President of Belarus, with specialization in the state management in the social sector.

In 1982-1985 she served as an engineer at Integral production association. From 1986 to 2003 Shchetkina worked in the sphere of education. In 2003-2005 she became a deputy chair of the Leninsky district administration in Minsk. In 2005-2007 she chaired the committee on labour, employment and social protection of the Minsk city executive committee. Since 2007 she served as Deputy and First Deputy Labour and Social Protection Minister.

Married with one son.
