Total number of Russia's unemployed goes up by 5% in November
21 December 2009. The total number of unemployed people in Russia counted by methodology of the International Labour Organization (ILO) increased by five percent in November 2009, as compared to the previous month, and amounted to 6.131 million, which totalled 8.1 percent of Russia's able-bodied citizens, the Prime Tass economic news agency said, quoting a regular report of the Federal State Statistics Service.

Conference on Decent Work Country Programme priorities
10-11 December 2009. The sub-regional conference to set up the Decent Work priorities and anti-crisis response in five CIS countries – Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Russian Federation and Tajikistan -- was organized by the ILO Moscow Office and the International Training Centre, Turin, in Baku on December 10-11.

UN Regional Conference adopts Ministerial Declaration: sets targets to address social impact of the economic crisis
8 December 2009. Faced with a regional challenge of significant negative effects of the global crisis on employment, social protection and food security, in particular for vulnerable groups of the population, high-level representatives from Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Turkey adopted a Ministerial Declaration designed to stimulate long-term sustainable responses to the global financial and economic crisis.

UN Ministerial Conference meets to review social policy options for a region, hard hit by the global economic crisis
7 December 2009. “The global economic and financial crisis has affected all countries, and Kazakhstan was no exception. In early 2009 the country faced a difficult situation on the labour market, particularly in oil- and gas-producing regions, Gulshara Abdykalikova, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Labour and Social Protection of the Population told participants and guests at the opening of the UN Ministerial Conference on the Social Impact of the Economic Crisis in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Turkey.
ILO warns “early exit” from stimulus measures could prolong jobs crisis
7 December 2009. An “early exit” from support measures adopted in response to the global economic crisis could postpone a jobs recovery for years and render the fledgling economic upturn “fragile and incomplete”, a new report by the research arm of the International Labour Organization (ILO) says.

4 December 2009. On December 4, Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko appointed Marianna Shchetkina as the Republic’s Labour and Social Protection Minister.
