Trainers come to enterprises of Kaliningrad

Kaliningrad
15-17 September 2009

On September 15-17 an educational seminar for trainers on the prevention of stigma and discrimination at workplace was held in Kaliningrad under support of the Immunopathology Center. The event was organized within the framework of the ILO project on HIV prevention at workplace that has been implemented in three Russian pilot regions in 2009.

HR and OSH specialists from different companies, trainers from NGOs and representatives of trade unions participated in this activity. Furthermore, the new ILO Guidelines for trainers “HIV and WORK: Prevention of Stigma and Discrimination at Workplace”, that had been developed under this project, was also presented during the educational seminar.

In the future, trainers will be able to organize activities on HIV/AIDS prevention at workplace. They will also provide counseling services to enterprises and companies on the issues of HIV workplace education, as well as to promote educational and informational materials developed by the ILO and the Immonopathology Center of Kaliningrad.

“We consider it very timely to hold such training in Kaliningrad as approximately 80 percent of all HIV-infected persons are above 20 years of age. These are working people that may face - and such cases have already been reported – discrimination and stigma at workplace,” said Anastassia Danilina, Focal Point for HIV/AIDS and the world of work for the Russian Federation. “We hope that trainers will be able to hold information campaigns and educational activities at enterprises of Kaliningrad and the Kaliningrad region and help to create tolerant attitude to HIV-infected workers.”
