Preparatory training on social protection for Tajik migrants in Kazakhstan

Dushanbe, Tajikistan
27-29 July 2009

Mariko Ouchi, Social Security Specialist of the ILO Subregional Office, visited Dushanbe, Tajikistan, on July 27-29 to conduct a preparatory training on social protection for Tajik migrant workers in Kazakhstan and to meet with EU consultants working on the project of pension reform analysis in Tajikistan.

The main purpose of this training was to provide some knowledge base on social protection prior to the study tour of Tajik trainees to Kazakhstan (Almaty and Astana) scheduled for the first week of August. For this reason, more emphasis was given to the social security system in Kazakhstan.

Possible follow-up actions after the study tour may include the formation of a social protection strategy for Tajik migrant workers and the signing of a general agreement for protecting migrant workers between trade unions of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
