Confederation of Labour (VKT) and the Russian Labour Confederation (KTR) signed a unification treaty

Moscow
16 July 2009

On July 16, the All-Russian Confederation of Labour (VKT) and the Russian Labour Confederation (KTR) signed a unification treaty at the Subregional Office of the International Labour Organization.

The All-Russian Confederation of Labour and the Russian Labour Confederation are two large alternative trade union associations. Their member organizations operate on the territory of over 70 Russian regions and form ten national trade unions. The leaders of the All-Russian Confederation of Labour and the Russian Labour Confederation are included in the Russian tripartite commission for regulation of social-labour relations. These two confederations are members and cofounders of the International Trade Union Confederation, the world’s largest trade union federation. The All-Russian Confederation of Labour and the Russian Labour Confederation also closely cooperate with the ILO.

The President of the All-Russian Confederation of Labour, Boris Kravchenko, stressed that “the signing of the unification treaty between the All-Russian Confederation of Labour and the Russian Labour Confederation is one of the main steps towards consolidating Russia’s trade union movement.”

“The unification congress that will finalize our joint decision will take place in October. In fact, the Unified Confederation will be the most representative association of alternative trade unions that will be second only to the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia,” he said. “Having united the two confederations will create the groundwork for further integration of trade unions, non-members of the FITUR, into a single democratic trade union structure. We plan to use the unifying potential for creating new organizations at the county’s enterprises that are left outside the trade union movement. We see in these efforts an opportunity to find an appropriate response to challenges of the economic crisis.”
