On May 12 Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan signed a decree to appoint Gevorg Petrosyan as Labour and Social Affairs Minister. He replaced on this post Arsen Hambardzumyan. Gevorg Petrosyan was born in Yerevan on September 4, 1972.
In 1995 he graduated with honours from the law department of the Yerevan State University. Since 1996 he has been giving lectures in law at the university. In 1998 he earned a bachelor degree in law and became a member of the Armenian Lawyers’ Union.
In 2004-2005 he served as an adviser to the head of Yerevan’s Nor-Nork Community and later was appointed as the head of the administration.
In 2005-2009 he was a law adviser to the director-general of ArmenTel, the republic’s biggest telecommunications company, and a senior labour law specialist.
In 2007-2008 he served as the head of the legal control department of Armenia’s Control Chamber.
Since 2006 Petrosyan has been a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party. He is the author of several textbooks on law.
He is married, has three children.
