Unemployment in Russia is expected to reach 12% of the country's labor force by the end of 2009, Zeljko Bogetic, the World Bank's chief economist for Russia, told reporters Monday, the economic news agency Prime-Tass said.
In February, unemployment in Russia amounted to 8.5% of the country's labor force, or 6.4 million people, as calculated under International Labour Organization (ILO) methodology, the Federal State Statistics Service said earlier.
The level of poverty in Russia is expected to increase to 15.5% by the end of the year from 12.7% as of the beginning of 2009, Bogetic also said.
