There are 6mn jobless in Russia, Yuri Gertsy, head of the Federal Labour and Employment Service, told the Ekho Moskvy station. He said the assessment was made on the basis of the ILO methodology and includes both registered and unregistered unemployed.
At present, 1.522mn people receive unemployment benefits in Russia, the official said, adding that he believes the forecast of the Health and Social Development Ministry according to which the number of registered unemployed will grow to 2.2mn people in 2009.
